The new Vietnamese passport is accepted in the UK.

The U.K. will proceed to accept the new Vietnamese passport and continue to issue holders of the document visas, the British Embassy in Vietnam announced on Wednesday.

"Visa applicants and passengers (including those in route) should ensure they are fully informed of, and periodically verify, the position on acceptance of these documents for all their destinations," it stated in a Facebook post. "The U.K. currently continues to recognize the new Vietnamese passport."

Prior to the U.K., France declared last week that it would accept the new Vietnamese passport and grant bearers visas "until further notice."

However, the French Embassy in Vietnam advised those with new Vietnamese passports to omit their intended length of stay or planned transit through Germany.

Additionally, they are urged to update their data due to "rapidly changing circumstances."

After Germany and Spain, the Czech Republic became the third nation on Tuesday to refuse to accept the new Vietnamese passports.

The absence of birthplace information was the justification given by all three nations for their refusal.

Although Germany and Spain have officially stated they will not issue visas to holders of the new Vietnamese passports, it is still unclear whether the Czech Republic will stop giving visas for those passports.

Since July 1st of this year, Vietnam's new passport has been valid. The birthplace information-containing old green-cover passports are still valid till they expire.

Applications for Schengen visas that include a current Vietnamese passport showing the applicant's birthplace will still be accepted and handled regularly in the interim.
