A number of factories must close due to the extreme heat in China.

Sichuan province in China issued an order to shut down all companies for six days to help with power shortages as the nation experienced its hottest heatwave in 60 years.

Sichuan is a significant semiconductor sector manufacturing hub, according to CNN. For some of the biggest electronics businesses in the world, like Apple, Foxconn, and Intel, solar panels and electricity distribution will be relevant.

Lithium, a vital component of electric car batteries, is also mined extensively in China's Sichuan region, and analysts have warned that the closure of factories there could increase the cost of raw materials.

With temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius in dozens of locations, China is witnessing its worst heat wave in 60 years. The need for air conditioning in houses and other buildings is being driven by sweltering heat. As businesses expanded rapidly, the strain on the electrical infrastructure increased. In addition, dry rivers reduce the quantity of electricity hydroelectric facilities can generate.

One of China's largest provinces, Sichuan, which has 84 million residents, has informed 19 of the region's 21 cities to halt factory activities from Monday to Saturday. The provincial government and the national electrical authority announced the choice in an emergency notice on August 14. In order to ensure that there is enough electricity to meet everyone's demands, manufacturers must halt operating.

Since July, Sichuan, a significant hydroelectric power hub in China's southwest, has experienced heat and dryness. The heat wave in the province has intensified since August 7. According to a report on the website of the Chinese government, the average annual rainfall decreased by 51% during the course of the previous six decades.

A Sichuan city named Luzhou declared last week that it would switch down its street lights at night in order to save energy and ease the strain on the power infrastructure.

Along with Sichuan, numerous other significant provinces in China, including Jiangsu, Anhui, and Zhejiang, exhort businesses and households to conserve electricity. In some regions, offices are required to raise the air conditioner's temperature over 26 degrees Celsius and forbid the use of the elevator on the first three levels in order to preserve electricity.
